How will I remember Neil? Gentle and kind, and as I often told him, whilst creasing up over something he’d said, he was one of the funniest people I have ever known. We had so much fun banter in the office, it was a pleasure to go to work. Whenever I organised any event Neil would always be the first to say “I’ll be there. Just let me know the time and place, but not on a Tuesday.” Tuesday night was sacred and every Wednesday we’d get a story or two about where he had been and the beer he had sampled.
There are many office pranks (chilli brownie caught on camera) that I will remember with a smile but one particular moment has stayed with me for years. It was my first day back to work after my sister passed and as I sat at my desk trying to hold it together, Neil walked in with a reassuring smile and simply placed a hand on my shoulder. He didn’t say anything, but his kind gesture was so comforting. I will always remember Neil for his kindness, his cheeky smile and his love for a good gossip over lunch at Number One Thai.
